New Years 2011: A Tango Odyssey

Hi folks! Another quick update as we head off on our final adventure before heading home (!) in less than two weeks. We’re in Guayaquil, Ecuador right now, and tomorrow we’ll be heading out to the Galapagos Islands for eight days (that is, assuming Laura’s appendix doesn’t stage a last-minute coup as mine did right before we were originally supposed to hit the Galapagos in November). We’ll be totally offline for the next week, but we’re planning to post a full report on our three amazing weeks in Patagonia as soon as we get back. With more than 1,800 photos to sort through (good lord) and so many great hikes and adventures to write about, it’s proving to be a slightly bigger job than we initially anticipated.

In the mean time, though, we wanted to wish everyone a slightly belated Happy New Year! We spent our New Year’s Eve at a fancy-schmancy tango show and all-night party at one of the hotels in Buenos Aires. We’ve posted a few photos and videos below, mostly to remind everyone what we look like when we wear something other than the oh-so-sexy trekking clothes and trail-runners that have been our constant companions for the last year. The party was a lot of fun, and we even managed to do the impossible and stay up until sunrise. But like all of the other holidays we’ve spent away from home this year, it couldn’t quite compete with a NYE spent with our family and friends. In case we haven’t mentioned it before (have we? :), we are really looking forward to being home.

That’s all for now… we have some blue-footed boobies to go track down. Hasta luego!

Laura couldn’t wait to “be a girl again” (as she put it) in these newly purchased pink heels.

Hey, the suit may have been rented and the dress may not have met BA’s “prostitute chic” fashion standards, but at least we didn’t have on convertible pants!

Our tango show was incredible, almost Broadway quality, and very sexy.

Feliz ano nuevo you guys, I love the "arm's-length movies"! You look very debonair & elegant (respectively :-).

Love the videos! And I'm quite amazed you both made it to sunrise. I call shenanigans. Impostors maybe??

Happy Anniversary and Happy New Year! I've loved watching your progress as you have traveled the globe. It is so much more interesting then the 90,000+ miles I fled DOMESTICALLY last year. Get in touch when you're back, have unpacked, and have reaquainted yourself with SF life. We'd love to see you. I'm on the mend from hip surgery, so no running (possibly ever), but I'll be back on the bike shortly...and looking for company.

Enjoy the last leg. I'm SO jealous.

XO, Nic & Vince

Hi you two, Happy New Year! I just wanted to let you know I'm still reading and living through you while sitting on a ball at my desk at 111 Sutter. SSDD as Kara would say. Anyway welcome home and I hope I get to see you two at some point in the next month or two.
