Auck-bland
Just a quick update on the time we spent in Auckland, New Zealand. The weather was, as they say, changeable, which basically meant that we got rained on many, many times when we went out without umbrellas because it was bright and sunny at the time. We never got soaked, but it did teach us very quickly to have our teeny little mostly useless travel umbrellas with us at all times. We spent most of our three days here getting organized for our time in New Zealand, deciding how to see it, and trying to switch our brains out of to-do list mode and into experience mode. When you have a year of travel ahead of you, this is easier said than done.
In the end, we were pretty unimpressed by Auckland as a city. As Laura said yesterday: if the most memorable thing about the time you’ve spent in a major international city is a tossup between seeing Avatar in 3D and watching the homeless rugby guy mock fight with the homeless car squeegee guy in the middle of the street (I’ll ruin it for you: the squeegee guy’s squirt bottle made a much better weapon than a rugby ball), then maybe it’s time to move on.
